Unique Mixproof Valve

Unique mixproof valves enable the simultaneous flow of two different products or fluids through the same valve without risk of cross-contamination. This enhances plant flexibility and efficiency of the dairy, food and beverage, and biopharm industries.

Cost effective mixproof valve

Alfa Laval Unique mixproof valves feature two independent plugs, which means that a single Unique mixproof valve can often replace two or more valves of other types.

Exceptional spillage-free operation

A state-of-the-art double-seat design provides long-lasting, spillage-free operation thus minimizing the risk of product contamination. The use of double lip seals provides added protection to ensure safe and hygienic operation.

It also features no adjustable components, a maintenance-friendly actuator and built-in leakage detection on all seals. Unique Mixproof Valve Range

The Alfa Laval Unique mixproof valve concept provides modular solutions that you can easily tailor to your specific requirements. This means you only pay for the exact features and capabilities you really need. To make selection easier, a series of standard configurations is available:

  • Unique Basic has the basic components that provide significant safety and leakage detection. It features an actuator without seat lift and unbalanced plugs.
  • Unique SeatClean is the choice for standard installations that handle products with solids. Seat lift during normal cleaning procedures cleans the plugs and seats. A balanced lower plug eliminates the risk of mixing products by pressure shock or when the pressure in the pipe is high.
  • Unique HighClean meets your processing needs when dealing with sticky products. SpiralClean ensures thorough cleaning of the spindles, upper and lower plugs and in the leakage chamber. With balanced upper and lower plug, the configuration of this valve protects against the effects of high pressure and water hammer.
  • Unique UltraClean meets the highest demands for hygienic processing of sticky products, products with high content of solids, or applications that require close-to-aseptic conditions. It features an actuator with integrated seat lift, balanced upper and lower plugs and SpiralClean.
  • Unique Mixproof Tank Outlet is the choice for standard tank installations. Seat lift during normal cleaning procedures cleans the plugs and seats. A balanced plug protects against water hammer when closing in the direction of product flow.
  • Unique Mixproof Horizontal Tank Outlet Valve specially designed for horizontal mounting directly on the tank wall. It improves cleanliness of the horizontal tank connections and ensures that no area of the tank inlet or tank outlet is left uncleaned. The valve insures 100% drainability of the tank and for the 4” and 6” it offers the ability to handle particles up to 45 mm.
  • Unique Mixproof Large Particle Valve. For applications with very large particles or highly viscous fluids, this valve offers the same basic advantages as Unique mixproof valves but are specially designed with large openings up to 45 mm in diameter.

You get the full benefit of using Unique mixproof valves by combining them with Alfa Laval ThinkTop and ThinkTop Basic valve sensing and control units.

Valve clusters – customized flow solutions

Alfa Laval valve clusters can be supplied pre-assembled and pre-tested as well as fully wired and with all the necessary pneumatic tubing, junction boxes and control panels pre-connected.
This means you can bring even complex installations online as quickly as possible, saving time and avoiding lost revenue associated with on-site troubleshooting and downtime.

Construction

The Unique mixproof valve concept is based on a series of base components, including valve body, valve plug, actuator and cleaning options and accessories that support a wide range of applications. Using these components, you can build a Unique mixproof valve to match your exact process requirements.

To facilitate maintenance, the Unique mixproof valve also features leakage detection holes that provide advance notification of wear or damage to static o-rings. Operators can visually inspect the valve at any time without having to disassemble it.

Operating principle

The Alfa Laval Unique mixproof valve is a normally closed (NC) valve that is controlled from a remote location by means of compressed air.

To separate the two liquids, the valve has two independent plug seals. The space between the two seals forms an atmospheric leakage chamber. In the rare case of accidental product leakage, the product flows into the leakage chamber and is discharged through the leakage outlet.

When the valve is open, the leakage chamber is closed. The product can then flow from one line to the other without spillage. The valve can easily be cleaned and protected against the effects of water hammer according to the specific requirements of the process and the configuration of the valve. (There is no product spillage during valve operation).

SpiralClean system

To ensure the hygienic operating condition of its Unique mixproof valve range, Alfa Laval offers its SpiralClean system to clean the upper and lower balanced plugs and leakage chamber of the valves. Using less cleaning fluid, utilities and time, SpiralClean cleans more thoroughly and efficiently than conventional cleaning devices. All external CIP systems for Unique mixproof valves include the SpiralClean design as standard.

Another big benefit: SpiralClean enables the Unique mixproof valve to operate under aseptic-like conditions, creating a steam barrier to the atmosphere upon applying steam to the CIP pipes.

Unique Mixproof Horizontal Tank Valve

The Unique Mixproof HT valve provides a state of the art solution when there is no CIP pressure or flow from the tank side to clean the seat and plug. The valve is self-cleaning, thanks to two Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) nozzles. The first nozzle is designed specifically for plug cleaning. This double-acting nozzle projects cleaning solution through the tank connection, ensuring complete cleaning of the seat contact surfaces as well as the shadow area of the tank port.

The second is a rotating CIP nozzle incorporated into the unit for optimum cleaning of the full-bore leakage chamber. The design of the single valve body makes it suitable to weld directly on the tank or to connect it via a Tri-clamp.

The 4” and 6” models feature a 45-mm opening, which enables the passage of very large particles or efficient handling of high viscosity fluids.

Unique Mixproof Large Particle Valve

Unique Mixproof LP is remote-controlled by means of compressed air. The valve is a normally closed (NC) valve. It is as standard supplied seat lift, which enables handling of two different products at the same time, or safe handling of one product while seat-lift cleaning operations are being conducted in the other portion of the valve – all without any risk of cross-contamination.

The 6” valve is as standard also equipped with balanced lower plug to protect against the effects of high pressure and water hammer. The 4” valve is, in order to accommodate 1½” (45mm) particles, not supplied with balanced lower plug. The 4” is however as standard equipped with a boost actuator to accommodate a product pressure of up to 10 bar.
