A True Aseptic Radial Diaphragm Valve Application

The Alfa Laval Radial Diaphragm Valve UltraPure is a one-piece diaphragm sealing system that delivers reliable, contaminant-free performance. Features that contribute to its superior hygienic design include:

  • Pocket-free design without dome, sump or deadleg
  • Flow optimized design with wide radius for fast Cleaning-in-Place and Sterilization-in-Place (CIP/SIP)
  • Single-seat valve technology with stem shielded behind the diaphragm so it does not travel in and out of the product chamber

Flexible aseptic valve installation

With its compact footprint and straightforward seat-valve design, the Alfa Laval Radial Diaphragm Valve UltraPure is easy to install. Unlike Weir-type valves, our radial diaphragm valve does not require a critical installation angle to eliminate dead legs. Fewer bends and weldings reduce the cost of materials, labour, and associated documentation.

Assembly is easy using a standard clamp. No tools are required for assembly, re-tightening or adjustment. Plus there are no loose screws, bolts or nuts so diaphragm replacement, when required, takes just a few seconds. This significantly reduces downtime and maintenance costs.

High flow rate, high product recovery rate

Engineered for use in biotech, pharmaceutical and aseptic food industries, the Alfa Laval Radial Diaphragm Valve UltraPure provides a high flow rate despite its compact size and small actuator. This flow-optimized design contributes to quick and easy cleaning using CIP/SIP systems.

With its self-draining design, the Alfa Laval Radial Diaphragm Valve provides full drainability with superior Kv (Cv)values. This contributes to high product recovery and increased profitability.

Standard radial diaphragm valve design

Designed for use as a shut-off valve, pass-through valve or a tank outlet valve, the Alfa Laval Radial Diaphragm Valve UltraPure can operate in manual mode or in automatic mode when equipped with a pneumatic actuator. Available in silicone and EPDM, our diaphragms meet the requirements of FDA and USP class VI classifications as well as TSE/ADI declarations. Standard welding or clamp ends are available in ø12.7 mm, ø25.4 mm and ø38 mm dimensions.

Construction

The RDV-UP is a single-seat valve with the stem protected behind a silicone or EPDM diaphragm. The diaphragm has a true aseptic double-sealing system that protects the product from external contamination. The diaphragm protects the stem so that the stem does not travel inside the product chamber, thereby eliminating the risk of contamination being dragged into the product chamber.

Operating principle

The Alfa Laval Radial Diaphragm Valve UltraPure (RDV-UP) range is designed either for manual operation or for automatic operation.

Manual operation

For manual operation, the RDV-UP is controlled by means of a handle. A simple turn of the handle pushes the stem downwards with the diaphragm, pressing it against the seat of the valve body and thereby closing the valve.

The handle is fitted onto the valve by means of a clamp.

Automatic operation

The RDV-UP can be controlled from remote location by means of compressed air using a pneumatic actuator. The actuator controls the axial movement of a piston, thereby opening or closing the valve depending on the actuator function.

The actuator is available in two standard versions: normally closed (NC) and air/air activated (A/A). The actuator is fitted on to the valve by means of a clamp.
