Koltek valve for high-viscosity product applications.Koltek Valve

The Alfa Laval Koltek Valve is designed to control the flow of items that are particularly thick or include large particles. This space-saving diverter shutter valve transfers processing fluids with the highest purity and minimal pressure loss. Its ease of maintenance extends to cases where it is welded directly into a pipeline.

Allow for the smooth passage of highly viscous fluids containing large particles through your processing lines. Process industries with strict cleanliness and performance requirements frequently use the Alfa Laval Koltek Valve, a stainless steel diverter shutter valve.

This flexible valve, also known as the MH Koltek shutter valve, features three ports for easy in-line flow diversion. The valve is simple to use, fix, and even automate if required. It finds widespread use in the pharmaceutical, food and beverage, chemical, and home and personal care industries.

Alfa Laval Koltek Shutter Valve Application

  • Reduced pressure drop and simplified internal contours ensure continuous inline flow, hence improving process hygiene and efficiency.
  • Manage the flow of very viscous fluids and improve process efficiency.
  • Three-way inline valve provides greater routing flexibility.
  • Allows high-viscosity and large-particle process fluids to move through more easily, increasing yields.
  • Vertical port installation promotes drainability and reduces product loss.

Technical Data

  • Max. temperature: 110°C
  • Max. pressure against shutter: 300 kPa (3 bar)
  • Max. pressure behind shutter: 1000 kPa (10 bar)

    • Max. 800 kPa (8 bar)
    • Min. 500 kPa (5 bar)

The Standard Design

The Koltek valve features a PTFE shutter, three pipe connection ports, an internal cylindrical bore, and a strong body. The shutter is supported and set by an internal shaft, which is guided by rings or bearings on the two lids. The shaft can be turned manually using the stainless steel handle or automatically using the actuator. A gear wheel on the valve shaft engages a toothed bar connected to a set of cylinders and one or two major pistons in the actuator. Pressure shocks in the valve do not affect the system.

Working Principle

The Alfa Laval Koltek Valve is operated by an actuator or handle. A spring mechanism presses the shutter against the inner cylindrical surface of the valve body, ensuring perfect sealing.

An indicator device can be mounted laterally to the air-actuated valve to remotely indicate the valve position, or an Alfa Laval ThinkTop® V50 or V70 control unit can be used. On the manually controlled version, indication units for Alfa Laval LKLA actuators are available. The valve actuator is offered in both single-acting and double-acting configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is a Koltek valve and where is it used?
A1: The Koltek valve is a three-port stainless steel shutter valve used to control the flow of highly viscous fluids or fluids containing large particles. It is commonly used in food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and personal care industries where hygiene and low pressure drop are essential.

Q2: Can the Koltek valve handle viscous fluids and products with large particles?
A2: Yes. The Koltek valve is designed with smooth internal contours and a PTFE shutter to allow thick and particle-filled fluids to pass with minimal clogging. This improves yield and efficiency while maintaining hygiene standards.

Q3: How does the Koltek shutter mechanism work and how is it actuated?
A3: The shutter is mounted on an internal shaft and pressed into place with a spring for sealing. The shaft is rotated manually or by an actuator. The actuator moves the shaft using a gear wheel and toothed bar system. Valve position can be monitored manually or through a ThinkTop unit.
