How the SX UltraPure Rotary Lobe Pump Works

The Alfa Laval SX UltraPure is a positive displacement rotary lobe pump. Inside the pump head, two contra-rotating rotors turn in opposite directions without contacting each other. As the rotors rotate, fluid is carried through the spaces between the rotor surfaces and the pump casing, allowing smooth and controlled transfer.

This pumping principle helps maintain low pulsation and low shear, making the SX UltraPure suitable for sensitive and high-value fluids. The pump head contains no internal contacting parts, which supports hygienic operation, reliable product handling, and reduced wear.

The pump can be supplied as a bare shaft unit or as a complete assembly with coupling, guard, gear motor, and shroud for easier integration into process systems.

Standard Design

All product-contact components are manufactured from W.1.4404 / AISI 316L stainless steel. The paint-free stainless steel gearbox provides excellent durability and supports hygienic external surfaces. The universal gearbox design allows flexible installation in either vertical or horizontal port orientation.

The SX UltraPure is available with single, single flushed, and double mechanical shaft seal arrangements. Its front-loading seal design simplifies maintenance and helps support hygienic sealing performance in demanding process environments.
