Alfa Laval rotary lobe pumps are classic positive displacement pumps that include a rotor case, rotor case cover, rotors, rotor nuts, shafts, gearbox, shaft seals and elastomers. The pump head of the pumps operates without any internal contacting components. The SX Ultrapure can be supplied as a bare shaft pump or installed on a base plate that includes a connection, guard, gear motor and shroud for easy plug-and-play installation. All wet parts are typically built from 316L stainless steel, with a paint-free steel gearbox. Additional goods, as requested, are also available. Alfa Laval also manufactures all pump components, including the very precise rotors and rotor cases. This provides for complete interchangeability of spare rotor parts and simplifies maintenance.

The pump gearbox’s gear train drives the rotors, which are properly synchronized or timed. The contra-rotating propulsion system consists of two rotors that spin in opposite directions within the pump head. Fluid passes through the spaces formed between the rotor’s dwell and the interior of the rotor casing.

Standard design

All product-contact components are manufactured from W.1.4404 (AISI 316L), making the SX UltraPure suitable for personal care production, biotechnology processing and pharmaceutical applications requiring ultra-pure fluid handling. The stainless steel gearbox offers maximum shaft rigidity and simple oil seal replacement. The universal gearbox design allows pumps with input and outlet ports to be placed in either a vertical or horizontal plane by adjusting the foot and position, offering flexibility.
With four-lobe rotors certified to 150°C, the conventional Alfa Laval SX Ultrapure can be utilized with CIP and SIP systems more easily.

There are fully interchangeable single, single flushing and double mechanical shaft seals, as well as fully front-loaded models. The latest technique, which uses stationary and dynamic elastomer seals to prevent pumped media leakage to the atmosphere, controls compression joints using media contacting elastomers.

The Alfa Laval SX Ultrapure is available as a bare shaft pump or mounted on a base plate with couplings, guard, gear motor and shroud for easy plug-in installation.
